- _I_P_O_P_2_d and _I_P_O_P_3_d are servers which support the PPOOPP22 and
- PPOOPP33 remote mail access protocols respectively. _I_P_O_P_2_d
- and _I_P_O_P_3_d can also be used by PPOOPP22 and PPOOPP33 clients to
- access mailboxes on IIMMAAPP servers by specifying a login
- user name in the form <host>:<user> e.g., SSEERRVVEERR..WWAASSHHIINNGG
- TTOONN..EEDDUU::SSMMIITTHH..
-
- _P_O_P_d is invoked by the internet server (see _i_n_e_t_d(8)),
- normally for requests to connect to the PPOOPP port as indi
- cated by the _/_e_t_c_/_s_e_r_v_i_c_e_s file (see _s_e_r_v_i_c_e_s(5)).

- The PPOOPP22 and PPOOPP33 protocols are intrinsically less flexi
- ble than IIMMAAPP and do not maintain `read' vs `unread' state
- on the server. As a result, most PPOOPP based software
- transfers all the mail from the server to the client and
- deletes it from the server. This necessarily locks the
- user into using only a single client.
-
- PPOOPP33 does not allow you to specify an alternate folder
- from the user's default.
